Random thoughts and updates from the lives of the Underwood family: building a family, doing ministry, and trying to follow Jesus.
has anyone ever watched this show? I haven’t, but saw this today and nearly died laughing…gotta be one of the best running character bits I’ve seen in awhile.

It wasn’t too long ago I posted the gloriousness that is Chuck Testa. Well now it turns out that the Autotune the News guys have spun it into a song. Just when you think things can’t get any better…
I just saw the proposed school board levy increases that are on the ballot. Like I want to give more money away to anyone right now, geez…
I did find this article in the DNT that gives more info on what is being asked of us. If you’re a Duluthian, this is worth reading before you instantly default to a no-no-no vote.

And sorry for the quasi-political themes lately - I will go back to less boring stuff soon, I promise. :)
I’ve seen lots of auto-correct fails with the iPhone, and while I guess it helps me keep from making spelling errors, it also can make me sound really strange.
Yesterday I was trying to type “account” and missed the “n”. It then corrected it to “accouterments”. I mean, I guess I could have accidentally left off SEVEN letters. Oh well, thanks to my phone for trying to save me time. But it didn’t work, because it took me another couple of minutes to look up the word accouterments and see what it actually meant.
Additional items of dress or equipment in case you are wondering. Not unlike accessories or supporting items. But sounds much cooler.
Back to things that matter now…
This really impacted me. Being from the south, albeit in the 80s-90s, I’ve still seen remnants of the system Piper grew up in. And I have had to recently face the effect it has had on me. Hearing his story is really powerful. It’s about 20 min, but worth it I think. At the very least, watch the first 5 or so min and the last 5 or so. One of the best Christian perspectives on racial equality I’ve been exposed to. His journey from accepting racism to adopting an African-American daughter. Powerful!
I find the whole Occupy Wall Street thing really interesting. I get it…I mean, I think I do at least. It’s impossible not to see/hear about the level of selfishness and corruption in the upper level of our society and not get frustrated and feel ripped off. I’d love to see it change as well. But we can’t forget that the 99% is just as corrupt and selfish, it just manifests itself differently. We don’t have the ability to do the things that these upper level execs and companies have done, so we don’t do them. But if we were in the same situation, would it really be any different? And the 1% have gotten a bad rap. Some of the wealthiest people I know are hands-down the most generous and most servant-hearted people on this earth. They have done more than I ever could to make this world a better place for all of us.
That being said, I think that there’s an inherent issue of “entitlement” that so easily creeps into these discussions. I recently had a visit from a fellow Youth for Christ worker from the country of Haiti. I was sharply reminded of the gap that exists between myself as (self-proclaimed) middle-class American and the rest of the world.
If you to www.globalrichlist.com, you can punch in your income and it will tell you where you fall in the world’s richest people. Guess where I am?
“Congratulations Ryan, you are the 59,029,289 richest person in the world. This places you in the top 0.98% of the richest people in the world.”
So I’m actually in the 1%. Hmm…that changes the discussion, doesn’t it?
Just a thought.
